From “Too Good to Be True” to Homeowner

For Aryn, becoming a homeowner in Northern Kentucky started with a little skepticism.

When his friend Ellie told him about her experience becoming a homeowner through Housing Opportunities of Northern Kentucky (HONK), Aryn wasn’t immediately convinced. In fact, he worried that his friend might be getting scammed.

But then he watched her go through the process.

He saw the support she received from the HONK team. He watched her work toward homeownership and, eventually, become a homeowner herself. Seeing her experience firsthand changed his perspective.

Maybe it wasn’t too good to be true after all.

A New Home in Elsmere 

After seeing what was possible for Ellie, Aryn decided to trust the process and pursue homeownership for himself.

Yesterday, that decision became a reality: Aryn officially became a HONK homeowner. Well, almost! He’s leasing, but plans to complete the program soon.

Today, he’s moving into his new two-bedroom home in Elsmere, Kentucky, and starting the exciting process of making it his own.

For Aryn, homeownership means more than having a new place to live. It’s the opportunity to have a home that belongs to him—a place where he can settle in, make his own decisions and build what comes next.

And his family is already helping him get started.
His aunt gifted him a Roomba for his new home, so Aryn is officially entering homeownership with one important household responsibility already covered. 

Seeing Someone Else Do It Made the Difference

Aryn’s story is a reminder of how powerful it can be to see someone you know become a homeowner.

Sometimes, the idea of buying a home can feel out of reach. The process can be overwhelming, especially for someone who isn’t sure where to begin or whether homeownership is even possible for them.

For Aryn, seeing Ellie go through the process helped make it real.

He didn’t have to take someone else’s word for it.

He watched her experience unfold, saw the support she received, and eventually decided he could take that step, too.

Now, he’s the one with the keys.
